School Resource Officer

Description

  • Under direct supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform a wide variety of police and law enforcement activities, specifically acting as a liaison between students/youths and the Police Department.  Employees in this classification perform skilled-level work.  The position is responsible for tasks that are service and protection oriented and include collecting and dispensing information, arbitrating disputes, providing assistance, protecting, and recovering property, preventing crime, investigating, and providing other public protection services.  Duties include an element of personal danger, i.e., exposure to life-threatening circumstances, apprehending criminals, and transporting prisoners. Incumbents perform duties in accordance with state statutes and established departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.  The incumbent must be able to act without close supervision and must be able to exercise independent judgment.  Performs related work as required. 

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college level course work or vocational training in Criminal Justice/Public Safety; supplemented by one (1) year previous experience as a School Resource Officer and/or working with schools/juveniles and familiarity with juvenile law; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 
  • Completion of the Police Academy Program and field training, and attainment of the Basic Peace Officer certification. 


Police Officer

Description

The incumbent must be able to act without close supervision and must be able to exercise independent judgment. Performs related work as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college level course work or vocational training in public safety; supplemented by six (6) months previous experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Completion of the Police Academy Program and field training, and attainment of the Basic Peace Officer certification. Associate’s degree preferred. A valid Texas Driver’s License is required. Ability to pass a background check, fit for duty exam, drug screening, and psychological.

Investigator CID

Description

  • Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform specialized law enforcement activities related to the investigation of criminal activities and the identification and apprehension of criminals. Employees in this classification perform professional, skilled-level work. The position is responsible for performing the duties of an investigator. Incumbents perform duties in accordance with State Statutes and established departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines. The incumbent must be able to act without close supervision and must be able to exercise independent judgment. Performs related work as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college-level course work or vocational training in public safety; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training that includes investigation and interrogation. Must have the ability to respond to after-hours calls and have and maintain a professional, inviting, and friendly demeanor. Ability to pass a background check, fit for duty exam, drug screening, and psychological.
  •  Basic Investigator Course (40 hours) completed.
  • Intermediate Peace Officer Certification required.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

Minimum Qualifications

  • HS diploma or GED equivalency; supplemented by college-level course work or vocational training in public safety; supplemented by six (6) months previous experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Completion of the Police Academy Program and field training, and attainment of the Basic Peace Officer certification. Associate degree preferred

  • Ability to pass a background check, fit for duty exam, drug screening, and psychological evaluation.
