RESOLUTION NO. 2021-09-27-R-0l
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PRINCETON, TEXAS,
SETTING A DATE FOR A MASS MEETING FOR THE PURPOSE OF SELECTING
MEMBERS OF THE HOME RULE CHARTER COMMISSION AND PROVIDING STAFF SUPPORT FOR SAME.
WHEREAS, Chapter 9 of the Local Government Code has outlined the procedures for selection of a charter commission from among the residents of a Type A general law municipality to form a charter; and
WHEREAS, the City of Princeton (“City”) desires to select a charter commission and allow them to proceed with the formation of a draft charter for the City in an expeditious manner allowing for efficient completion of the commission’s work for presentation on the May 2022 election ballot; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds it to be in the public interest for City residents to conduct a mass meeting wherein a slate of fifteen ( 15) commission members and alternates can be selected, such that the commission’s work can begin as soon as practicable;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PRINCETON, TEXAS, THAT A MASS MEETING SHALL BE HELD TO SELECT MEMBERS OF THE CITY’S CHARTER COMMISSION:
SECTION 1. The mass meeting shall be conducted at 6:30 p.m. at 123 W. Princeton Drive, Princeton, TX 75407 on October 6, 2021.
SECTION 2. This mass meeting shall be open to the general public. Any person eligible to vote in City elections may attend the mass meeting and apply to be a member of the home rule charter commission upon verification of eligibility. In-person attendance is required to be selected as a voting member, but
those willing to serve as alternates may contact the City Manager if unable to attend.
SECTION 3. The City Manager shall coordinate staff support of the mass meeting and present the slate of commission members to the City Council thereafter for ratification. A public notice shall be posted for the mass meeting, to include notices of potential quorum for the City Council and other City boards and commissions, but such bodies shall take no official action during the mass meeting.
