What is code red and how can I sign up?
Princeton’s CodeRED system provides free automated weather warnings just moments after a warning has been issued by the National Weather Service. To receive the automated weather warnings, you will need to update your information with CodeRED. You will be asked which of the following warnings you would like to receive: tornado, severe thunderstorm, flash flood, winter storm. You will also be asked if you’d like to receive automated weather warnings: by phone call, email or text message.
The CodeRED system enables the city of Princeton to deliver prerecorded emergency messages to targeted areas, by telephone, email and text message. Examples of times when the CodeRED system may be utilized include:
- Bomb threat;
- Chemical spill or gas leak;
- Drinking water contamination;
- Evacuation notice and route;
- Fires or floods;
- Missing person;
- Other emergency incidents where rapid and accurate notification is essential for life safety like threatening or approaching severe weather or utility outages.
