The Princeton Fire Department in cooperation with the Princeton Fire Marshal’s office and the Red Cross install smoke detectors in private residences within the city. Requests for a home inspection to determine if you are eligible for a free smoke detector or to determine if your smoke detectors are properly located should be made by emailing us at [email protected].
Our “smoke detector blitz”, which targets specific neighborhoods in the city limits, occurs semiannually and it will be advertised in advance on our Facebook and this website. If your neighborhood is chosen for our semiannual blitz, our on-duty firefighters will come door to door and coordinate an install for you. Don’t forget! Test your smoke detectors once a month, and change your batteries in the fall and spring. Also if your smoke detector is over 10 years old it may be advisable to replace them as the sensors began to lose their sensitivity.
