Derek F. Borg is the City Manager for the City of Princeton, Texas and was appointed to that position in February of 2012. As Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Princeton, Mr. Borg is responsible for the daily operations of the City. He has oversight of 100 full-time employees and over 30 part-time and volunteers. Mr. Borg is responsible for a total combined budget of approximately $33 million, a General Fund budget of approximately $11 million, and a capital improvement budget of over 30 million.
Mr. Borg began his career with the City of Princeton in May 2002 serving on the Princeton Fire Department, and was selected and appointed as Fire Marshal for the City in 2004, and to Asst. Chief of the department in 2007. Mr. Borg severed in that position until being appointed as Interim City Manager in August 2011. Mr. Borg received his training in public management at Texas State University, William P. Hobby Center for Public Service.
In 2007, during his tenure as Princeton’s Fire Marshal and Asst. Chief, he was appointed as the Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Princeton, and is currently serving as the Chairman of the board for the Collin County Local Emergency Planning Committee. He continues to serve in various capacities on local and regional boards and commissions.
Prior to his appointments with the City of Princeton, he owned and operated a successful construction company originally located in Thousand Oaks California prior to relocating his company to Texas in 1998. He resides in Princeton with his wife Patti, of 20 years and their daughter Katie.
The City Manager’s Office is responsible for the daily administration of all City of Princeton operations. The City Manager’s Office prepares and executes the annual budget as well as oversees enforcement of all city ordinances, resolutions, contracts, rules, and regulations.
The City Manager serves the City Council as Chief Adviser and effectively implement the decisions and policies of the city.
